A World Trade Center Macau delegation including WTCM Board
Chairman Susana Chou, Executive Committee President António Leça, Executive
Directors Vitor Ng and Peter Lam took part in the 28th General Assembly
of the World Trade Centers Association in Hong Kong on 6-9 October.
China's Minister for Foreign Trade
and Economic Co-operation, Wu Yi, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region, Tung Chee Hwa, the President of the WTCA, Guy Tozzoli, the WTCA
Board Chairman, Harjo Nimpuno, and the Deputy Chairman and Secretary General of the 28th
General Assembly, Annie S.C.Wu, officiated at the opening ceremony at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Center.
Madam Wu's speech was entitled,
"To Strengthen Co-operation, Promote Development, and Pave the way for a New
Era". She stressed together with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Administrative
Region Tung Chee Hwa, the importance of World Trade Centers in expanding the trade of all
nations.
WTCA President Guy Tozzoli reported
that the following new members were accepted for Association membership: Aqaba, Jordan;
Dulles Airport, USA; Okinawa, Japan; Ribeirão Preto, Brazil; Tacjon, South Korea;
Ulan-bator, Outer Mongolia; and Washington, DC, USA. The new member in Washington, DC is
the General Services Administration of the US Government, which applied on behalf of the
new Ronald Reagon International Trade Center on Pennsylvania Avenue. This brings total
WTCA membership to 318 organisations in 97 countries.

Delegates at the General
Assembly included World Trade Center sponsors who came to share
information on how to operate World Trade Centers more effectively
and to review the progress on a variety of inter-World Trade Center
cooperative programs. Many World Trade Center delegates brought
representatives of affiliated businesses with them who participated
in one-on-one trade appointments organized by the Assembly's hosts.
