ENTRY OF CHINA INTO WTO
An economic conference,"Entry of China into the WTO and its implications", held by the WTC Macau and the Inter-University Institute of Macau on July 13, discussed the local, regional and global consequences of China's upcoming accession to the World Trade Organisation.
About 230 people attended the four-hour conference at the Lotus Room of the WTC Macau, including dozens of academics, legislators, diplomats, government officials and business community leaders from Macau, Hong Kong and Mainland China.
WTC Macau President Antnio Leça said in his opening remarks that WTO membership would cause wide-ranging changes in China's economy and civil society. "As an outsider observing this adventure on which the Chinese people have embarked, and considering an historical identity that stretches back over five millennia, I believe that China will attain its goal,"(Cont.)

WTC ASIA REGIONAL MEETING TO BE HELD IN MACAU IN NOVEMBER 2000
The next WTC Asia Regional Meeting is scheduled to be held in Macau on November 8-10, less than one year after Macau's handover to China.
The main objective of the meeting is to analyse and solve critical operational problems that are troubling the WTCs in Asia and to find new models that could be incorporated into the WTCA's philosophy and mode of operation, in order to establish new ways of consolidating organisational structures and generating growth within our Association.
The meeting will also discuss networking programmes and study the important role of regional governments, national organisations, business associations and municipal councils in the promotion and dissemination of the WTC concept and philosophy.
The meeting will offer participants the opportunity of having a firsthand look at socio-economic and political developments in Macau since its establishment as an autonomous Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China on December 20 last year, namely trade and investment prospects, legal procedures, policy decisions and new infrastructure projects.
