World Trade Center Macau President António Leça has been appointed as the Regional Coordinator of the World Trade Center Association of Asia/ Pacific South Region. The appointment was made by the Committee on Industrialising Nations endorsed by the Board of the WTC Association during a plenary meeting of the world's over 200 WTCs in San Francisco in the first week of May.
WTC Macau President António Leça and WTC Macau Executive Director Peter Lam attended the WTC Association's world congress in the Californian capital. Mr Leça replaced Mr Harjo Nimpuno, former chairman of the WTC Association who acted concurrently as the Regional Coordinator for the Asia/Pacific South Area until his recent demise.

Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP) signed a co-operation agreement on April 13.|
The agreement was signed by WTC Macau President António Leça and the Vice-President of the Portuguese Industrial Association, João Dotti.
The agreement covers professional training, research, consulting, joint projects and the exchange of information. Mr Dotti said the accord would benefit the development of economic ties between Macau and Portugal and promote joint ventures between the two sides.
The delegation of the Portuguese Industrial Association launched a Macau investment guide for Portuguese businessmen during its stay in the territory which coincided with the 4th Macau International Trade and Investment Fair.
The General Assembly of the WTC Macau, headed by Stanley Ho Hung Sun, approved the 1998 annual report and accounts on May 10. The members of the General Assembly expressed great satisfaction with the results reported by the board of directors, namely a 67-percent increase generated by services and a 23-per cent decrease in operating costs when compared with 1997.
WTC Macau President António Leça made the following statement during the General Assembly: "Today, in a period when many companies operating in activities identical to those that we have developed, are seriously affected by the economic crisis, which affects their feasibility and viability, it is gratifying to describe a situation in which our strategic potential showed a relative increase last year, being in a position to continue facing a crisis situation that is already exceeding the regional scope and, above all, in conditions of finally growing again, when the 'time-space' will allow and permit them".
