The World Trade Center
Macau and the Inter-University Institute of Macau (IIUM) held a
seminar on "Real Estate Investment, Development and Management:
Major Factors & Dynamics" on January 16 and an interactive
workshop on "New Trends in Banking" on February 3-5.
Prof. George Birrell is the chairman of the
centre for property development and management at the University of Manchester/Institute
of Science and Technology. He explained in details the valuation method, development and
management of real estate investment.
Prof. Adriano Freire is a professor in the undergraduate and MBA
programmes in the Business Department at the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon.
During the three-day workshop, he underlined the issues of banking management in the
global context, focusing on new markets and technological trends, gave strategic
directions for the banking industry and also analysed the role of Macau in the global
banking industry. The attendants who joined the two
seminars were from all walks of life, including our WTC Macau members, bankers, and
investors etc.

Portuguese Economic Affairs
Minister Joaquim Pina Moura held a working meeting with the Macau government's Secretary
for Economic Co-ordination, Vitor Pessoa and the Secretary for Communication, Culture and
Tourism, António Salavessa da Costa on January 11. Before the meeting, Pina Moura toured
the WTC Macau headquarters with our President, António Leça.

Trade Centers Association (WTCA) organises two major events each year that bring together
representatives from all WTCs, as well as trade mission participants from all round the
globe, for a few days of information sharing, promotion of business development, and most
important of all, providing the opportunity for networking amongst the 337 WTCs.
This year, the city of San Francisco will be hosting the 1999 Spring Assembly at The
Palace Hotel from April 25-29. Discussion topics include Trade Card, E-Commerce Marketing
Strategies, California Wines in the World Market, etc.
In addition, the theme for the 30th General
Assembly which will be held in Osaka, Japan from October 18-21 is
"Catch the Rising Trade Tide". Should members wish to
