MOZAMBICAN PRESIDENT JOAQUIM CHISSANO URGES BUSINESSMEN TO INVEST IN HIS COUNTRY
 
The President of Mozambique, Joaqim Chissano, told local businessmen at the World Trade Center Macau on 4 April that his country offered excellent investment conditions in a politically stable and peaceful environment. 
     Mr Chissano visited Macau at the invitation of Governor Gen. Vasco Rocha Vieira, coming from a state visit to China. 
     Mr Chissano also praised the World Trade Center Macau for its involvement in the setting-up of a World Trade Center in his country. 
     The President also emphasized that Macau's transfer of administration to China in December 1999 "will not change the possibilities of co-operation" between the two sides. 
     The President was given an honorary doctorate by the University of Macau during his two-day stay in the territory. He also inaugurated the office of Mozambique's honorary consulate in Macau. 
     Mr Chinssano appealed for the further strengthening of business ties between Macau and Mozambique, stressing that investors should pursue a "long-term perspective", instead of looking for immediate results. 
     The President underlined his country's great potential in the area of tourism investments. Macau has launched a programme in support of professional training of Mozambican tourism sector employees. 
     Mr Chissano's entourage included three cabinet ministers who accompanied him on his visit to the World Trade Center Macau. 

CAPE VERDEAN ECONOMIC CO-ORDINATION MINISTER VISITS WORLD TRADE CENTER MACAU 
  
     Cape Verdean Economic Co-ordination Minister António Gualberto do Rosário and his entourage paid a visit to the WTC Macau on 28 April. 

     During the visit, Mr Rosário met WTC Macau President António Leça and toured the WTC Macau Building. Mr Leça also gave a briefing about our center to Mr Rosário and the members of his delegation, explaining the concept of setting up a world trade center project. 

     Mr Rosário was impressed with the WTC Macau's facilities, services and projects. He said his stay at the WTC understanding about the world trade center concept and the promotion of co-ordination projects between the two sides. 

     During his stay in Macau, the Minister also said he hoped that Macau Governor Gen. Vasco Rocha Vieira's planned visit to Cape Verde later this year would involve a " strong business component". 
 

     The Minister signed a string of bilateral co-operation accords during his stay in Macau, namely in the area of tourism training  and business relations. 

      Cape Verde is an island state in the Atlantic Ocean off western Africa comprising 15 islands. The country has 400,000 inhabitants. Portuguese is the official language.

Expo'98  WORLD FAIR SHOW AT WTC MACAU
 
      This century's last world fair, Expo'98 is Lisbon, was on display at the World Trade Center Macau for one week in April. 

      Expo'98 on the outskirts of the Portuguese capital takes place between May and September. 

     The Expo'98 world fair presentation at the WTC Macau was inqugurated by Portuguese Economic Affairs Minister Pina Moura and the Macau government's Secretary for Economic Co-ordination, Vitor Pessoa, during Portuguese Prime Minister António Guterres' official visit to Macau in April.

     The presentation was held by ICEP-Investment, Trade and Tourism of Portugal to inform the local population about Expo'98 in detail. Macau will have its own pavilion at the world exposition.
     The trilingual presentation (Portuguese, Cantonese and English) included slides, photographs and other displays, as well as Expo'98 official Internet page. A giant screen presented an audio-visual Expo'98 promotion film. 

     The WTC Macau is organizing a tour to Expo, including a stopover in Spain, in conjuction with Banco Nacional Ultrimarino (BNU), from 13-22 June.
