Chinese and Portuguese are the official languages, Cantonese being the most widely spoken. English is Macau's third language and is generally used in trade, tourism and commerce.

The official currency is Macau Patacas MOP. It is pegged to the Hong Kong dollar which is circulated freely in Macau at the rate of HK$100.00 = MOP103.20. US$1 buys approximately MOP 8.03. Banks are open from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and from 9:00 to 12:30 on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Credit Cards
Credit Cards (Vista, Mastercard, American Express and Diner's Club) are widely accepted.

Visa is required by all visitors and available upon arrival in Macau.
However, visitors from Australia, Brazil, European Union countries, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, People's Republic of China, Philippines, Poland, Republic of Czech, Republic of Estonia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand and United States of America are exempted.
